Bhootnath Temple (Mandi, Himachal Pradesh)

Bhootnath Temple is a medieval temple, situated in Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh. The controlling deity is Lord Shiva. The idol of Nandi, the sacred bull stands facing the ornate double arch of the sanctuary. Bhootnath temple is built in Shikhara style of architecture, dating back to the period of 1520.

The overhang, cellar and mandap are carved with delicate figures of elephants. Shivratri is celebrated here with huge fanfare, pulling in a number of people from far and wide. Bhootnath Temple can be accessed by bus from Mandi.

Parshuram Temple

Parshuram Temple (Chiplun, Maharashtra)

Located near the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, the ancient Parshuram Temple is situated near the town of Chiplun. Famous for the 6th ‘Avtaar’ or incarnation of Vishnu, the temple is resplendent with fabulous architectural beauty, which incorporates both the Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture.

Steps from the Ghat lead straight to the temple premises. The main temple structure is surrounded by stone walls and houses three elaborate idols inside the temple. It was built around 300 years ago by Brahmendra Swami. It is believed that since Parshuram created Konkan land, also known as Parshuram Bhumi, he is also automatically the presiding deity of the Konkan region.

There is temple of Goddess Renuka behind the Parshuram Temple. It is believed that Parshuram’s powerful five arrows created the primary water source here, which officially goes by the name Bandganga Lake. The houses from the Adilshah Period can also be seen in the region. The temple was constructed by the Portuguese and the funds for its construction were provided by Janjirekar & Siddhi. So, essentially, European, Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture are noticed in the construction work.

Annapurneshwari Temple

Annapurneshwari Temple (Karnataka)

Sri Annapurneshwari temple located at Horanadu, is located in the picturesque surroundings of Western Ghats of Karnataka. Horanadu is 100 kms south-west of Chikmagalur, located in the midst of thick forests and valleys.

Horanadu is a place of enchanting natural scenery, the ancient temple of Goddess Annapurneshwari here has been restored and renamed as the Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shree Annapurneshwari. The single image depicts the Goddess Annapurneshwari standing on a peeta with Shanku, Chakra, Sri Chakra and Devi Gayathri in her four hands.

The name “Annapurneshwari” means “Feeding one and all”. The uniqueness of this temple is everybody who visit this temple are provided with food (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) and place to sleep in the temple premises. Shri Bheemeshwara Joshi is the present Dharmakartaru of Annapurneshwari temple.
